Ensuring Uninterrupted Connectivity: Integrating Starlink for Maximum Resilience During Power Outages

This guide provides step-by-step best practices for pairing INVIZD with Starlink to keep your private, self-hosted ecosystem online even during grid failures.
1. Understand Power Requirements
The INVIZD is engineered for low-power, always-on operation (typically 10–30 W). Starlink hardware varies by generation:
• Standard Gen 3: ~50–100 W average (peaks to 170 W).
• Starlink Mini: ~20–40 W (ideal for compact setups).
Key Principle: Both devices must remain powered for the encrypted tunnel and WiFi to stay active.
2. Recommended Power Backup Strategy (Tiered)
Tier 1: Short Outages (Minutes to Hours)
• Use a pure sine wave UPS (600–1500 VA) for both INVIZD and Starlink router/dish.
• Plug INVIZD directly into battery-backed outlets.
• Expected runtime: 2–6+ hours.
• Best Practice: Always include surge protection.
Tier 2: Medium-to-Long Outages (Hours to Days)
• Pair a 500–1000 Wh+ portable power station (EcoFlow, Jackery, Bluetti) with solar panels.
• The INVIZD + Starlink Mini combo can run 12–24+ hours on a 1000 Wh unit.
• Pro Tip: Use DC-output models to reduce inverter losses.
Tier 3: Extreme Resilience (Whole-Home/Hybrid)
• Integrate with a home battery system (e.g., Tesla Powerwall) or generator on a dedicated circuit.
• Add a small dedicated 12V/24V battery bank with DC converters for ultra-efficient direct powering.
3. Network Configuration: Connecting INVIZD to Starlink
INVIZD uses WiFi only (no Ethernet port).
Primary Connection
• Connect INVIZD via its built-in high-speed WiFi to the Starlink router. This provides a stable link for your proprietary VPN / private encrypted tunnel.
Starlink App Settings
• Enable “Bypass Mode” if using a third-party router, but for simplicity keep the stock router as the primary gateway.
• INVIZD will handle its own internal private networking.
4. Remote Access Optimization
• Once connected, open the INVIZD iOS app.
• The proprietary VPN / private encrypted tunnel will automatically establish over Starlink.
• No port forwarding or cloud services required — your data never leaves your hardware.
5. Multi-User Setup
• Invite up to 10 users via the app. Each gets their own secure account.
• Starlink’s bandwidth easily supports simultaneous chat, file sharing, and email.
Security Note: Starlink’s built-in firewall + INVIZD’s hardware-level encryption and biometric lock create defense-in-depth. Never expose INVIZD directly to the public internet beyond the encrypted tunnel.
6. Testing, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Monthly Drill
• Unplug main power and verify INVIZD remains reachable remotely via the proprietary encrypted tunnel.
• Confirm all users can chat/share files.
Firmware Updates
• Keep both Starlink and INVIZD firmware current via their respective apps.
Common Issues & Fixes
• Tunnel drops: Restart Starlink router or wait for auto-reconnect.
• High power draw: Reduce connected devices or enable Starlink’s low-power/stow mode.
• No remote access: Verify Starlink is online and INVIZD is on the same network.
Data Backups
• While INVIZD is self-contained, we recommend monthly backups to your INVIZD encrypted disks.
